The Sun and Moon Prophecies and Chain of Events, Part 9 of 10

Part 8 covered Revelation 7:9-17 and Revelation 8:12-13.

That was the last of the passages. All sixteen are now read, one or two at a time, from Isaiah 13 all the way to Revelation 8.

Every part did the same three things. Read the passage in full, list the chain of events in the order the text gives them, and check that chain against the historical record.

This part lines all sixteen chains up in one place, in Bible order, every event as its own part listed it. Then it walks through how the chains connect, because the same events keep showing up across the prophecies.

No teachers, no doctrines from outside. Just the Bible, and the historical record.

The chains, in Bible order

  4. The stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light
  5. The sun will be dark at its rising
  6. The moon will not shed its light
  7. The world is punished for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity, and the pomp of the arrogant is put to an end
  8. People are made more rare than fine gold
  9. The heavens tremble
  10. The earth is shaken out of its place

  8. The Lord punishes the host of heaven, in heaven
  9. The kings of the earth are gathered together as prisoners in a pit, shut up in a prison, and after many days they are punished
  10. The moon will be confounded
  11. The sun will be ashamed
  12. The Lord reigns on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and His glory is before His elders

  2. The Lord is enraged against all the nations, and has devoted them to destruction and slaughter
  3. Their slain are cast out, and the mountains flow with their blood
  4. All the host of heaven rots away, and the skies roll up like a scroll
  5. All their host falls, as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves falling from the fig tree
  6. God's sword has drunk its fill in the heavens
  7. The sword descends for judgment upon Edom, and the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom
  8. Wild oxen and young steers fall with the mighty bulls, and their land drinks its fill of blood
  9. The Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion
  10. The streams of Edom are turned into pitch, and her soil into sulfur; her land becomes burning pitch, night and day not quenched, its smoke going up forever
  11. From generation to generation it lies waste; none passes through it forever and ever
  12. Thorns grow over its strongholds, nettles and thistles in its fortresses, and it becomes the haunt of jackals, an abode for ostriches
  13. The hawk and the porcupine, the owl and the raven, and the desert creatures possess it, each one with her mate
  14. The chapter itself says to seek and read from the book of the Lord and check: not one of these is missing, for the mouth of the Lord has commanded; they possess it forever, from generation to generation

Isaiah 50:2-3

The chain in this passage, in the order it is given:

  1. God asks where the certificate of divorce is, and which of His creditors He sold them to, and answers it Himself: for their iniquities they were sold, and for their transgressions their mother was sent away

  3. He asks if His hand is shortened, that it cannot redeem, or if He has no power to deliver
  4. By His rebuke He dries up the sea, and makes the rivers a desert; their fish stink for lack of water and die of thirst
  5. He clothes the heavens with blackness, and makes sackcloth their covering
  6. The Lord God gives His Servant the tongue of those who are taught, so he can sustain with a word him who is weary
  7. Morning by morning He awakens the Servant's ear to hear, and the Servant is not rebellious and does not turn backward
  8. The Servant gives his back to those who strike, and his cheeks to those who pull out the beard; he does not hide his face from disgrace and spitting
  9. The Lord God helps him, so he is not disgraced; he sets his face like a flint, and knows he shall not be put to shame
  10. The One who vindicates him is near, and no one can declare him guilty; all of them wear out like a garment, and the moth eats them up
  11. The one who fears the Lord and walks in darkness and has no light is told to trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God
  12. All who kindle their own fire and walk by the light of it have this from God's hand: they shall lie down in torment

Jeremiah 4:23-28

The chain in this passage, in the order it is given:

  2. The men of Judah and Jerusalem are told to break up their fallow ground and circumcise their hearts, lest wrath go forth like unquenchable fire
  3. Disaster is declared from the north, and the lion, the destroyer of nations, has set out to make the land waste and the cities ruins without inhabitant
  4. The people are told to put on sackcloth and lament, for the Lord's fierce anger has not turned back, and courage fails both king and officials while priests are appalled and prophets astounded
  5. A hot wind comes from the bare heights, not to winnow or cleanse, and judgment is pronounced on Jerusalem, whose wicked thoughts lodge within her

  11. The whole land is a desolation, yet not a full end, while the earth mourns and the heavens above are black
  12. Jerusalem adorns herself in vain, for her lovers despise her and seek her life

  3. Fire devours before them and a flame burns behind them
  4. The land is like the garden of Eden before them, and a desolate wilderness behind them, and nothing escapes them
  5. Their appearance is like horses, and like war horses they run, with the rumbling of chariots on the mountaintops
  6. Peoples are in anguish before them, and all faces grow pale
  7. Like warriors they charge and scale the wall, each marching on his way without swerving or jostling, bursting through the weapons and not halted
  8. They leap upon the city, run upon the walls, climb up into the houses, and enter through the windows like a thief
  9. The earth quakes before them, and the heavens tremble
  10. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining

  3. Tyre and Sidon and all the regions of Philistia are named: they took God's silver and gold and carried His rich treasures into their temples, and sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks to remove them far from their own border, and God will return their payment on their own head swiftly and speedily
  4. God will stir up the sold people from the place they were sold to, and the sellers' own sons and daughters will be sold into the hand of the people of Judah, who will sell them to the Sabeans, a nation far away
  5. The call goes out among the nations: consecrate for war, stir up the mighty men, and let all the men of war draw near and come up

How the chains connect

Lining the chains up side by side, the same events show up again and again. Here are the links, one at a time, with the passages that carry each one.

The day of the Lord. Isaiah 13 names it at the start of the series: the day of the Lord is near, and it comes with wrath and fierce anger.

Joel names it three more times. The day of the Lord is coming in Joel 2:1-11, the signs stand before the great and awesome day of the Lord in Joel 2:28-32, and the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision in Joel 3. Acts 2 quotes it too: the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.

The sun darkened. Isaiah 13: the sun will be dark at its rising. Joel 2:1-11 and Joel 3 say the sun is darkened, Joel 2:28-32 and Acts 2 say it will be turned to darkness, and Matthew 24 and Mark 13 say it will be darkened. Revelation 6 says it became black as sackcloth.

Isaiah 50 says he clothes the heavens with blackness and makes sackcloth their covering, and Isaiah 24 says the sun will be ashamed. The whole sky goes dark, not just one light in it.

The moon darkened, and the moon to blood. Isaiah 13: the moon will not shed its light, and Isaiah 24: the moon will be confounded. Matthew 24 and Mark 13: the moon will not give its light. Joel 2:28-32 and Acts 2 say the moon will be turned to blood, and Revelation 6 says the full moon became like blood.

The stars. Isaiah 13: the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light. Isaiah 34: the whole host of heaven rots away and falls, like leaves falling from the vine. Joel 2:1-11 and Joel 3 both say the stars withdraw their shining.

Matthew 24: the stars will fall from heaven, and Mark 13: the stars will be falling from heaven. Luke 21 names signs in the sun and the moon and the stars. Revelation 6: the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale.

The heavens trembling and shaken. Isaiah 13: I will make the heavens tremble. Joel 2:1-11: the heavens tremble, and Joel 3: the heavens and the earth quake. Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 all say the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

The earth quaking, broken, and reeling. Isaiah 13: the earth will be shaken out of its place. Isaiah 24: the earth is utterly broken, split apart, violently shaken, and it staggers like a drunken man. Jeremiah 4: the mountains were quaking, and all the hills moved to and fro.

Joel 2:1-11 and Joel 3 both say the earth quakes. Revelation 6 opens with a great earthquake, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. And Part 5 put Amos 8 with Isaiah 24: the earth wobbles like a drunkard, and the sun goes down at noon.

The sky rolled up like a scroll. Only two passages say it, and they say it the same way. Isaiah 34: the skies roll up like a scroll. Revelation 6: the sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up.

The Son of Man coming. Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 are three tellings of the same talk Jesus gave about the temple. All three end the darkening the same way: they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds, or in a cloud, with power and great glory.

The angels gathering the elect. Matthew 24: he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds. Mark 13: he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven.

The great tribulation. Matthew 24 sets the darkening immediately after the tribulation of those days. Mark 13 says the same: in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened. Revelation 7 names it from the far side: the great multitude are the ones coming out of the great tribulation.

The ones who come out of it. Joel 2:28-32: everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, and in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape. Acts 2 quotes the same promise. Revelation 7 shows the crowd itself: a multitude no one could number, from every nation, standing before the throne.

A third struck. Revelation 8 stands alone in putting a measure on the darkening. A third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so a third of the day and a third of the night lost their light. Then the eagle cries woe for the trumpets still to come.

And one plain fact stands under the whole series. The temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by Rome in AD 70, and no temple has stood in the city since that day. The temple of the last days has not been built yet.

That is every chain in this series, lined up in one place. Sixteen passages, 143 events, read in full and listed in the order each text gives them.

Every part checked its chain against the historical record, and not one of these chains is in the record. The events would be impossible to miss and impossible to leave out, and no year of history holds any one of them whole.

This part lined the chains up side by side and showed how they connect. It did not fit them into one single order, and it did not try to.

That is the last part, Part 10. It takes every event lined up here and fits them all into one order for the day of the Lord, strictly in the order the Bible itself describes it.

That was Part 9. Go back to the main page for the full studies, every part together.
